Winter 2011 / 2012 has been a tough year for Boulder County trees, yards and gardens. The extreme desiccating drying winds and lack of late winter and early spring moisture are very hard on our home landscape environments. Be sure to water your trees and shrubs after a strong wind event at your home. This is critical. Snowfall helped some, but will not fully meet moisture requiremennts. Its best to water when the temp is above 50 degrees. Trees, Rose bushes, Shrubs and all other plantings will greatly benefit from winter watering. Indeed, they will not survive well with out it.
Fire Alert:Keep an eye out also for very dry areas of tall grasses or weeds. With our current extreme wind conditions and lack of moisture, last years grasses and weeds are very dry and fire danger is extreme. Remove any piles of debris, wood piles and keep weed areas mowed that are a fire hazard near your home. We are in wildland fire season now.
